Visit #12
The Walk:
I drove up the gravel path, being very aware of the signs asking me to drive slow. Bad weather is my friend, it means tasting room aren’t packed. I slide into the empty parking area. Look around, make a quick decision. Go to the house or the tasting room…go for tasting room. I walk into the office that’s barely noticeable.
The Greeting:
I walk into the office and am greeted by the assistant winemaker. A lovely young gentleman that points me in the right direction. The Owner.
The Verdict:
We’ll see. I landed an appointment right away. I promise to update you soon.
Cheers!
My visits
I’m on number 11 (in no particular order) via this blog. I just take the appointments and visits that are vivid in my mind and I write about them. Some are funny, weird, awkward, breathtaking and some aren’t.. and It’s up to me to take the ones that aren’t exciting and come back and make them exciting. I think most wineries get it. They have people representing their wine in their tasting rooms with class, effervescence, enthusiasm and good old fashion hospitality. It’s something I don’t take for granted at all as I’ve run into quite a few tasting rooms who’s staff is bland, bored and rude.
I have many, many more Visits to describe, so stay tuned!
Visit #11
The walk:
The Greeting:
I connect with the gentleman who would soon become the object of my affection. He wasn’t interested. Offered me wine instead. For the next few months, 16 months to be exact, I would persue, and persue, and persue.
The Verdict:
Guess what? landed; we’re shipping his wine.
1 year old
I turned one year old at my company. Wow, it feels like no time has passed.
When I first started, I was brought over to the warehouse where we are currently and I was told that I was to fill up the 60,000 sq ft warehouse with new customers. I wasn’t sure how this was going to happen. 6 months into it, we were only occupying 15K Sq ft. 8 months into it, we’re occupying 30K sq ft (and opened up another location)
By the end of the year, we’ll have the entire 60K.
Time for me to recruit some help. I need to start building a team.
how to pretend you know how to test a wine
Aren’t we fancy!

Visit #10
One of those place I’ve seen tons of times, but never considered stopping.
I drive up, look at the restaurants around and start to make mental notes, “must grab the buddies and visit ASAP”.
The walk:
I’ve walked down the hallway a few times, different occasions. This time, I have a different purpose. I consider asking the gal at the front some questions, but she’s preoccupied with a customer. I keep walking.
The Greeting:
I look over at the gentleman behind the bar and we both shoot each other a smile. We kind of realize quickly that I’m here to talk to him. It’s that knowing look. He knows of me. Knows of the company. Sounds like a fan, just has some questions. He knows better than to be paralyzed by the “sounds too good to be true” way of thinking.
The Verdict:
The first time I’ve ever walked out of an appointment(the first appointment) with a signed contract. He actually interrupted me halfway through our conversation and shakes my hand saying, “I’m in, I’m in”.
Some agreements take a while, some don’t. If the chemistry is there and our philosophies match-then birdies sing and all is great.
